At Joshua's 15 mo. check up, we asked about his feet. They turn in when he walks. Pediatrician said to see the podiatrist. So we did. That was last Tuesday, Oct. 26.
It was a day where I should have just stayed in bed! I took the day off. Me, Tyler and Joshua all had appointments. I took Tyler to school at his regular time instead of to before-care. On the way, I rear-ended someone. Nothing major, barely hit her, no one hurt to sum it up. I was already slowing down, turned to look at the boys and when I turned back around the cars that had been slowing down were now at a stop. Now Tyler reminds me every morning so far, that "this is where you had your wreck." Thanks for the reminder Tyler, I forgot!
Went to my appt where I sat for an hour. My 9am appt ended at 10:20. Went to the mall to meet Ken and Tyler for his follow-up for his eyes. He got glasses in July and is so darn cute! Good news of the day - Tyler's eyes were no worse then at his original appointment. Later I met a wonderful friend for lunch. I did enjoy the adult time. We are both teachers and both had appointments. It was nice to not eat with children and to have more then 25 minutes. We had no sooner talked about how we hoped we didn't see any parents then one of my parents walks in. She was really nice though!
Then 2pm rolls around and I take Joshua to the podiatrist. He wants to get x-rays. Well that was about as much fun as pulling teeth! Joshua didn't like it at all on their small machine so we were sent across the street. That was ok if you like waiting an hour with a getting cranky 1 year old. Ken had just picked Tyler up at school so they came to help entertain. When it was Joshua's turn, they could hear him screaming in the lobby as we basically held him down to get the x-rays. Good stuff!
It's now almost 4 and Ken has to go to work so I have Joshua and Tyler with me in a doctor's office. What fun, but I have to give HUGE kudos' to the staff at Dr. Hagan's office. They were GREAT with helping entertain Tyler while I talked to the doc. Dr. Hagan also gets kudos. Joshua like him and he explained lots and talked to me like a human being. He was great.
So after we get back, we have Joshua walk down the hallway. We send Tyler first and Joshua quickly follows. Doc says "Holy Moly!" I let him know I don't like it when doctor's say that! He asks why hasn't he been treated before. I say we didn't notice it until he started walking. He says, "not his feet. I'm talking about his hips." When we get Joshua back on the table he shows me what he's talking about. When you and I sit with our legs out in front, our toes and knees are pointing to the sky. When Joshua does it, his toes are pointing up but his knees are to the side (left on left leg, right on right leg). Doc corrects it and now his knees are right, but his feet are nearly at 90 degree angles inward so his toes are looking at each other.
I was told that Joshua should have been treated when he was about a month old. If that were the case, he would have worn either braces or casts to fix the problem before he could walk. The podiatrist wasn't sure what would happen since he can already walk. You can't exactly keep a 1 year old still and have any sanity left!
Tomorrow, he will be getting fitted for special shoes. That's why I titled this post Run Forrest Run. As I told my students where I was when I was out, one of the students immediately said "Like Forrest Gump?" We are waiting on the referral to the pediatric orthopedist to talk about his hips and legs.
But this whole thing makes me wonder should I have noticed his legs sooner? I knew he walked a little funny. I just figured it was his feet. No matter what, he is perfect to me and Ken! Whatever it takes, we will do it if it will help him in the long run. For those of you that know him, you know it certainly hasn't slowed him down any! He's all over the place and climbs on everything! More to come on the situation later.

Nicholas Sparks contest
My favorite theatre teacher has a blog I have started reading. She is now on my list of people I am jealous of! She met Nicholas Sparks during his book signing for the release of his new book, Safe Haven. He is by far my FAVORITE author. I have read all of his books so far. Can't wait to read the newest.

Catching Up
I am really going to try to do this more often, but no promises! You all know life gets in the way sometimes. I just realized it has been nearly a year since I posted about Ken's 40th birthday. He'll be 41 in 3 days. Tomorrow is opening day of bow season for deer hutning so he will be somewhere in a treestand. But first we are taking the boys to Farmer's Day in Richlands.
So since last year a lot has gone on. I worked on National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification from October, 2009 to March 2010. I was so relieved to get that package mailed! It's a lot of work, but if I pass it will also be a really nice raise! Since the state hasn't given us our step raise for years of experience in 2 years, it would be really nice. You have to complete 4 entries in a portfolio. Just packaging it all togther took 3 hours! Then there is a test with 6 essay/analysis questions. I took the test in May 2010. I am waiting patiently for mid to late November for the results. Everyone finds out on the same day. Not at all nerve racking.
Ken is still working on his business degree. Maybe he'll be finished before too long, but it's a slow process when working full time and only taking 2-3 classes at a time. He is also still on night shift. You would think that after 6 years (in November) I would be used to it, but I sure would love for him to be home to help with bed times, lunches for tomorrow, and school work now that Tyler is in K-4.
Speaking of Tyler, he was 4 in Janurary. He is going to Jacksonville Christian Academy this year for K-4. So far he is loving it. His teacher says he is doing great which makes me very happy. THe only bad thing is I spend nearly an hour in the car every morning. I take Joshua to Mema's, then Tyler to JCA, and then I head to Dixon High for work. That means I get up way too early but it's worth it. We think Tyler will truly benefit from going there.
Joshua is 15 months now. He is still my great sleeper. Sleeps 10-12 hours each night. He is all over the place and loves to climb. He is also starting to really get a personality. It's cute at times and a sign of things to come at others.
Nathan (13) came for 4 weeks this past summer. He was able to go to Centrifuge at Ridgecrest with our church youth group. He says he had a great time. He'll be back at Thanksgiving. Nathan is in 8th grade. I can't believe it. When Ken and I started dating he was only 5. Why can't they all stay little? He is also on the trap team at his middle school. Tryouts were last weekend and he shot 9 out of 10. Not bad. He did it last year as well and really likes it.
Brendan (20) lived with us for a few months from May - August. He is now on his own again.
Tyler asks tons of questions about Dylan. He also has a strange fascination with Heaven and death. He has asked me if he was dead. He told me he wanted to be dead so he could go to Heaven and play with Dylan. I know he doesn't understand the whole concept yet (obviously) but I don't know what "normal" is. Most parents don't have this issue to deal with. In case you haven't read my other posts, Dylan is my son that passed away in Sept 2004 when he was 13 weeks old. He was a blessing for the time we did get with him and still is. I pray that the Lord gives me the right words when Tyler is asking all his questions so that I can show Tyler what a wonderful God we serve.
Ken and I took the little boys to Tweetsie Railroad over the Labor Day weekend. Tyler loved it and Joshua just sat back in his stroller and took it all in. Tyler came home with a hat, badge, two guns and a bow and arrow set. Poor Joshua only got a badge with his name on it. He's too little for the other stuff and by the time he gets big enough, Tyler will have lost interest and Joshua can have his stuff.
The school year started back in August as usual. So far so good. I took the Technology Education Praxis in June so that I could teach Scientific and Technical Visualization I and Game Design at Dixon this year. Thankfully I passed! I got my scores on Monday before I was to leave on Sunday for a week long workshop on how to teach Sci/Vis! Cutting it close, but we didn't get word that Dixon was approved to pilot Game Design I until May. Sci/Vis is the prerequisite for it. I have a class of 25 boys for the whole year. So far so good though. I have a lot to learn still, but I am really looking forward to it!

Happy Birthday, Ken!!!
Today is my husbands 40th birthday. He is still in denial about it though. My sister Sherri taught our son Tyler to say "Daddy is old" whenever we talk about it being Ken's birthday. It's quite hillarious to everyon except Ken, but oh well.
We have had pretty quiet day. We went to church and then to lunch with my whole family (except Gina and her crew). MaAnn even went with us. We had a good time. This afternoon was spent dong HW for both of us. He's been working on accounting and I've been grading papers. Fun stuff!
I didn't get Ken a gift to open, but his birthday/anniversary/Christmas present is tickets to see Redskins play Cowboys. He's going with several people from church in December. He's never been to an NFL game and is really excited about it.

Lots more stuff going on!
Yes, I know I am slack on updating things, but what can I say - I have been busy adjusting to life with two babies at home! Joshua has been a GREAT baby!!! He's been sleeping through the night since he was 3 weeks old. Earlier this week, he slept 12 hours straight. Now if only I could sleep that long. Tyler has become my problem sleeper. A lot of that has to do with him missing Daddy. Now that we are all back to school and work, he only sees Ken on the weekends.
I fortunately am no longer in grad school!!!! I finished my degree in May 2009. I did not go to the graduation ceremony though. I kinda wish I had, but it was at 8pm in Greenville and I was 3 weeks from my due date! But I can now say I am a master educator. My degree is a Masters of Arts in Education and my concentration was Business Education. I have already received my new license and submitted it to Personnell and I can't wait to get my raise. It's not that much, but every little bit helps.
Ken took the summer off from Coastal Carolina CC so he would be around more to help with the baby. He is still working nights and goes to class during the day. He is taking three classes this semester: accounting, math and a literature course. He goes 11am - 1pm daily and then stays on campus to do homework before he goes to work in New Bern. Maybe he'll be finished by the time he is 60! :)
This summer Nathan was here for 5 weeks. He came on June 27th and we went straight to VA to see Ken's family. They got to meet their newest grandson for the first time. We were there for a couple of days and of course they loved meeting Joshua! Tyler loved Grandma's pool the best! It was good to see Brendan who is now living with Ken's parents. He is able to help Fran with Raymond. Raymond had several strokes in late Jan. and isn't able to walk more then a few steps. He has been on a feeding tube since, but he is now able to eat pureed food. He has the feeding tube for a back up and to take his medicines. He is doing much better then he was in Jan. but he still has a long road ahead of him. His speech is slurred and he is hard to understand, but that too is improving. The look on his face when he saw Joshua the first time was priceless!! That was something we weren't sure would happen after his inital strokes, but we are certainly glad he was able to come home and has made it this far.
Back to Nathan now. He stayed with Fran and Raymond the remainder of the first week here. Then we went to Topsail Beach with my family for the 4th of July weekend. I feel like we didn't get to do much with Nathan like we normally do because of the new baby and not going anywhere big. But he said he had a good time here. Ken and him went to Carowinds just the two of them one weekend. He loved that of course. Tyler didn't though! He kept asking where Nathan and Ken were. Nathan was a great help keeing Tyler entertained for me while I adjusted to a new baby again. He has a younger sister and brother at his mom's house so he's used to little ones around.
I went back to work on Aug. 17th. I hated leaving Joshua (and Tyler too) but I know he is in good hands! Mrs. Lynn is keeping him until my mom retires on Oct. 1 WOO HOO!!!!! Mema will keep him after that. Tyler will continue to go to New Beginnings. He needs to structure. He is all boy! Workdays were fine. Lots of meetings as usual. Open House was on the 18th. That was good. I met lots of parents that seem truly interested in their children. Sometimes I wonder if there are any parents out there like that! It was nice to see some this year. I have a LOT of freshmen so I am still working on learning all of their names. The first week (only 4 days) actually went really well. I am teaching Computer Applications I, Sports & Entertainment Marketing I and Marketing. Next semester I have 3 new classes: Two I have never taught before (Principles of Business and Personal Finance and Sports & Entertainment Marketing II) and one that has a completely new curriculum (Computer Applications II) so next semester is going to be hectic to say the least.
I was asked this week to be one of the Senior Class Advisors. I said yes. I am also still the advisor for NHS, ACE and Pep Club. So I stay rather busy, but at least I don't also have to do work for grad school!!!
As is the life of a teacher, I must get to work on grading some papers now. We had a busy weekend of birthday parties so I haven't done anything for next week yet. Oh well! Family is more important, hands down!

Joshua Dale has arrived!
So, I realize I haven't posted in a while, but that is ok. Joshua arrived on Friday, May 29 at 5:06 pm. He was 20.5 inches and 7 lbs 1 oz. He is absolutely precious! Labor and delivery were easy (thankfully). Our family is now complete.
Tyler is a great big brother already! He's been so gentle with Baby Joshua. When he visited us in the hospital, he did not want to leave. Tyler didn't quite understand why Joshua and I had to stay and he had to leave. He had lots of quality time with Mema (my mom) though.

Momma's BIG Boy!
I can't believe Tyler turned 3 yesterday! He is getting too big too fast! Yesterday we took cookies for his "party" at school. He of course was all excited about that. The school I teach at had a spaghetti dinner fundraiser so we ate there for supper and then went to Mema's house. Gina and Mikey were coming for the weekend (Stephen worked Friday and Sunday so he didn't come). Tyler got his birthday presents from Mema (grandma), MaAnn (great-grandma) and Aunt Gina and Mikey. It touched my heart for him to say thank you to each of them and give them big hugs and kisses. I am proud that Ken and I have raised a gracious child.
We had his Mickey Mouse birthday party at Mema's house today. We had lots of friends from church and Tyler had a great time. I saw one of the parents at Wal-Mart when I went to get the cake and he asked what Tyler needed. I said clothes. He then asked what he wanted and I said toys. He asked if Tyler would be excited about clothes. I told him he wouldn't believe how excited he gets about anything. During his party one of the other parents commented about how excited he got about clothes. Of course he likes the toys too, but most kids just open clothes and throw them to the side. Not Tyler. He takes it out and almost inspects it. He really looks at it to see what it is. I think it is hillarious! Of course he immediately wanted me to open all the toys so he could play. I'd have to tell him we'd play after we opened all the presents.
Ken's mom (Grandma Fran) and his sister Julie came for the party and are staying until tomorrow. We all went to dinner and Grandma bought dinner. I told Tyler to tell her Thank you. He says, "Thank you Grandma for my dinner. Thank you for my cheeseburger, my fries and my Sprite!" How sweet is that?
After we got back home tonight, Tyler really showed me he was a big boy! He has been wearing "big boy" underwear all week (except when sleeping) and has done really well since last Saturday. He's had a few accidents at school and would only go poop when he had a pull-up on for nap time or when getting ready for bed. Tonight however, we have crossed another bridge! He came and told us he needed to go potty and he went poop on the potty!!! How exciting! Then 5 minutes later he told us he needed to go potty again and he did! I guess he wasn't finished the first time. I am so proud of my BIG boy! And you should all see my "Tyler Went Pee Pee on the Potty Dance." It's quite exciting! He even told us dinner he needed to go pee. We haven't been out much in public this week as you can imagine why so I was very pleased (and surprised) that he stopped eating to tell us he needed to go. Hopefully I have bought my last set of pull-ups! :-)
On to a different note....Ken and I were talking about how the new baby is coming and we're going to be switching rooms so the new baby will be closer to mommy and daddy. Well Tyler apparently didn't like this and quickly told us the new baby will sleep in the barn! So we asked who would take care of him in the barn. He told us Mary would just like she takes care of Baby Jesus! Now, does it get much sweeter than that?
